The Case of the Silly Supervisor

Ellie works for Benson, Inc., who employs over 50 people. Ellie is an executive assistant

to Zander, Vice-President of the company. Grant is a co-worker of Ellie's, and also works

as an executive assistant for another company executive. Grant likes Ellie and wants to date her. As such, he makes it a point to be around Ellie as much as possible, to the point of interrupting Ellie's daily work. Grant follows Ellie around the workplace, manages to sit down next to her in the company lunch room as often as possible, and is constantly asking her to go out with him. He has now upped his game and has started cracking embarrassing jokes in front of Ellie, which makes her feel very uncomfortable.

Tired of Grant's behavior, Ellie reported it to Zander. Zander told Ellie that Grant "was

harmless" and that "He doesn't mean it. He's always been that way. He's lonely. Nothing

has ever happened." Zander told Ellie to go back to work and ignore Grant. Upset that her

concerns were brushed off, Ellie went back to work because she feared losing her job if

she pursued the matter any further. Unfortunately, the harassment got worse.

After several months of the continued harassment, Ellie resigned from her job. She

subsequently filed suit against Benson, Inc., alleging discrimination.

What is the IRAC for this case? with respect to identifying when Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 OR another federal anti-discrimination law is applicable in an employment matter. Thank you.
