The chapter begins with a discussion of a woman who had a stroke, leaving her with a rare condition called locked-in syndrome.
  Mia's only ability was to control the muscles of her eyes, allowing her to communicate. However, she still had her mind!   With the use of technology that tracks eye movements across a letter board, and with the help of family, friends, and doctors, since her stroke, Mia has gone to college, authored a book, and gone bungee jumping and mountain climbing.
