The chi-squared goodness fit test is used to determine if a random variable has the specific probability distribution (Anderson et al, 2020). The goodness fit test is important in determining if a categorical variable follows a hypothesized distribution (Statology.org, 2022). The test is different than other tests because it uses the null and alternative hypothesis. The formula to conduct the test is X2 = (O-E)2 / E, I would like to say I understand what that formula means but I actually have no idea. The test is used to determine if they hypothesis either a null or an alternative follows the hypothesized distribution. An example from my life I could use to reference and explain the test is the percentage of M&M's that come in a bag and sorted by color. I have really no idea so I found this example on the internet. The test will show the percentage of yellow, blue, red and other colors based of a hypothesized percentage. The test is performed on a new bag of M&M's and the level of the variable is compared to the visual count of colors. The formula above is used and the significance level is chosen. I will use the 0.05 since it was used a log in the homework assignments. The significance level determines if you can reject the null hypothesis. In my career the test could be used to determine then number of patients by age group. The test would show our population of patients and provide statistics on patient age and conditions if we took it a step further. provide additional examples not already discussed. Examples should be as specific as possible and state the variable and categories. Use reference source(s) to support your response.
