The consultancy role for the Food and Beverage in an established aged care facility with 56 residents has been awarded to your company. The GM has given you the job at the Shady Rest Home for the Aged in Tweed Heads. The background to the business shows that there is an increasing number of residents who are staying longer and as such the menu needs to be reassessed; the Chef is retiring and you are required to find a new Chef who can modernize the menu while still keeping within the financial restraints of the F&B section of the facility.
This is considered a highly specialized job and in recruiting, selecting and inducting this person, you will need to be aware of some of the following issues:
The owner of the Home is strongly of the opinion that newspaper advertising is ineffective and so requires other means of advertising the job - what are the options?
No job specification has ever been used so you are required to write these for the position available. The chef will have to be able to adhere to the specifications including writing a new rotating menu to suit the clientele
There is some urgency attached to finding this person (the retiring Chef is leaving almost immediately) and as such you will need to solve the problem of where to interview selected applicants - given you may get applications from interstate
This job will appeal to a certain section of the work force and you must be aware of the anti-discrimination aspects attached to questions used at the interview process - you will need to list these as the owner will be involved in the interviews along with yourself and the director of nursing
You will need to advise the owner of the federal and state legislation awards to which the Chef will have to work - or advise the owner to go other ways - perhaps a salaried position may be better economically. He will be required to establish a new roster to adhere to the tighter budget introduced recently - as such you will need to provide him with hours of operation.
In advising the owner of the processes involved, you must advise him of the proper records that need to be maintained during the process of recruiting, selecting and inducting the Chef to the new position.
