- Draw a rectangular box at the left margin at the bottom of the page. Then draw a vertical line center and upward at the top middle of the box. The line should be two fingertips long.
- Draw a second rectangular box the same length and width of the first. The vertical line should connect to the bottom center of center of the new box. It should be the same length as the last.
- Draw a third rectangle similar to the other two. Then draw a broken vertical line between the second and third rectangular box.

- In between the two three tier structures, label the space between the bottom boxes court of Original Jurisdiction.
- In between the next tier, label the space between the boxes the Intermediate Appellate Court.
- In between the last tier, label the space between the boxes the Court of Last Resort
- Outside of the left margin next to the bottom box, label the parties to the Court of Original Jurisdiction Plaintiff vs Defendant. The Plaintiff is the party who initiates the lawsuit and the defendant is the party being sued.
- Outside of the left margin next to the middle box, label the parties to the Intermediate Appellate Court Appellant vs Appellee. The appellant is the party who lost in the Court of Original Jurisdiction and the Appellee is the party who one in the lower court.
- Outside of the left margin next to the top box, label the parties to the Court of Last Resort Petitioner vs Respondent. The petitioner is the party who lost in the Intermediate Appellate Court and the respondent is the party who won in the Intermediate Appellate Court.
- Please label inside of the three Federal Court boxes with the names of the courts.
- Please label inside of the three NJ State Court boxes with the names of the courts.
