The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in nearly 4 million infections and 300,000 deaths worldwide and brought the global economy to a standstill. With stay-at-home orders being lifted, you are trying to use your knowledge of decision trees to determine what you should do over the next 3 months: (A) continue to stay home but work part-time, (B) go to work but only when absolutely required, or (C) go back to your pre-COVID level of activity.

Use the following information to determine the right choice if you make $5000 per month as a freshly-graduated engineer:

Plan A: you would lose half a month of pay ($5000/2=$2500) and probability of contracting the illness is 0.01% Plan B: you would lose quarter of a month of pay ($5000/4=$750) and probability of contracting the illness is 5% Plan C: no loss of pay and probability of contracting the illness is 30%

For all plans, if you do fall sick, assume that you will lose $20,000 in lost pay + medical expenses over the next few months.
