The CPI for hospital care (as one example) measures the cost of a two-person "hospital room and board" charge as an important part of the CPI hospital services index. Has the quality of that "hospital room" been constant for the last four or five decades? If not, what changes in quality have occurred? What does that tell us about the relevance and accuracy of the CPI for hospitals?
