The current opinion on labor unions in the United States is essentially split. 55% of Americans have a positive view of unions and say they benefit the nation, while 41% have a negative opinion on unions (Nadeem, 2024). I don't believe they bear the singular burden of transforming their image in the minds of non-unionized Americans. However, I think unions do shoulder some responsibility for sharing and maintaining a positive public image. Overall, regardless of their level of burden, it is in the labor organization's best interest to dispel poor images and rumors. With a poor or skeptical public image, misinformation about unions and their effectiveness may be easier to spread than positive messages. Employers may be able to better spread fear of the unknown within workers if the topic of unionization arises within the business. In addition to this, non-unionized Americans may not know or regularly interact with unionized workers directly. This creates a barrier for discussion about differences in working lives between unionized and non-unionized populations
