The defendant in this case is a well-known and popular talk radio host. His show runs 5 days/week, for 3 hrs/day. Audience ratings depend more on irate callers phoning in than popular guests to be interviewed. Quarterly ratings will be measured over the month of February. The host wants a strong rating. He's never been a fan of a certain rich business leader and has often been critical. As the rating period came closer, though, he's skated very close to the edge of defamation. He does not believe he's gone over that edge and slandered his target. Nevertheless, he is served with a slander lawsuit. The station manager at the radio station makes it clear they're not willing to support him. Neither will the network the station is part of. He is on his own. How might he, and his lawyer, review this case and make the decision whether to fight the plaintiff, or to give in and settle.
