More remarkable was an isolated afternoon thunderstorm caused this. ATC gave little concern to this small thunderstorm, especially the large, wide-bodied Delta L 1011 aircraft crew. The experienced flight crew could see the thunderstorm but gave little regard to how it could affect them. However, it was the cold air from the microburst coming out of the thunderstorm that the aircraft could not fly through.
