The educational attainment (ie, highest level of education completed) of an American juror is typically far below that of an expert witness, so the expert witness must explain complicated topics in a way that is easy for the jury to understand.

Identify a forensic process that may seem complicated to a jury (eg, mapping a bloodstain, collecting entomologic evidence, locating a clandestine grave) and write a narrative of how you would explain all elements of this process to the jury in a way they would understand. You must use "every-day" plain language that would be understandable to any nonscientist audience.

A conversational tone is appropriate and expected for this assignment, so you are free to use contractions and colloquialisms to the extent that they enhance your ability to explain the topic to a lay audience.

Do not include discussion on how to write in plain language; only use these resources as a way to help you as a student communicate a complex topic to a nontechnical audience.
