The elementary liquid phase reaction C 6 H 6 + H N O 3 C 6 H 6 N O 2 + H 2 O

The elementary liquid phase reaction C6H6+HNO3C6H6NO2+H2O is carried out
adiabatically in a CSTR for which the shaft work can be neglected. An equimolar mixture of
C6H6 and HNO3 enters the reactor at 300K with a volumetric flowrate of 0.002m3s with a
C6H6 concentration of 0.0001molm3. The heat capacities of the C6H6,HNO3,C6H6NO2 and
H2O at 300K are 0.015,0.015,0.02 and 0.01kcalmoleK, respectively. The enthalpy of
formation values for C6H6,HNO3,C6H6NO2 and H2O at 300K are -20000,-15000,-30000 and
-11000calmole, respectively. The activation energy and rate constant of the reaction at 300K
are 10kcalmole and 0.00001m3mole, respectively. Determine the volume of CSTR to achieve
85% conversion of C6H6.
