The essence of behavioral approaches to personality is that personality is learned. it could be directly, through behaviors that are rewarded or punished, or indirectly, from watching others. Our thoughts, which can arise by rewards, punishments, or sometimes randomly, are also rewarded.

Although behaviorists and cognitive behaviorists disagree both groups would claim that personality is learned and is changeable.
