Directive 2008/50/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe.

• This Directive establishes ambient air quality objectives with the goal of avoiding, preventing, or reducing harmful effects on human health and the environment as a whole. To that end, it establishes measures for assessing ambient air quality in Member States as well as obtaining information on ambient air quality in order to enable in the fight against air pollution and nuisance. The Directive seeks to strengthen Member States' cooperation in reducing air pollution.
