The Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993 requires employers with fifty or more employees to provide their employees (except for key employees) with up to weeks of unpaid family or medical leave during any twelve month period for various medical reasons. Californias Family and Medical Leave Act of 2002 provides for six weeks of family leave under the same circumstances as the Federal FMLA except the leave is - up to 55% of the employees wages.
