The federal reserve might seems like they would be the ones to set the long-term interest rate but that is actually not correct. When an investor purchases bonds, this increases the demand for bond which in turn increases the bond prices but lowers the yield. This contributes to lower interest rates. The inverse is true when investors don't buy bonds, the prices lowers and the interest rate increases which increases the yield. Thoughts on this comment
