The first question: Draw a block flow diagram (BFD) for this process
(draw like this picture of sample flow diagram)
Carbon capture is a process that is gaining a lot of attention due to its ability to mitigate the environmental effects in the oil and gas industry (along with other industries). One proposed carbon capture method is through the use of MDEA (N-methyl diethanolamine) absorption. The following steps describe the process:
1. A stream of "Flue Gas" is fed into an absorber
2. An "MDEA + Water" stream is also fed into the absorber
3. "The MDEA + Water" stream comes from a mixer where "MDEA" and a "Water" stream are fed
4. A "Clean Flue Gas" stream and a "Water + MDEA + CO2 (Rich)" stream exit the absorber 5. The "Water + MDEA + CO2 (Rich)" stream enters and exits a heat exchanger
6. A "Steam" stream enters and exits the heat exchanger as "Water"
7. The "Water + MDEA + CO2 (Rich)" stream enters a stripper
8. A "CO2 + Water" exits the stripper
9. A "Water + MDEA" stream also exits the stripper
10. The "CO2 + Water" stream enters a 5-stage compression train where three streams ("CO2" and 2 "Water" streams) exit
11. The first "Water" stream exiting the 5-stage compression and the "Water" stream exiting the heat exchanger are fed into a separator
12. The second "Water" stream exiting the 5-stage compression enters the stripper
13. Two streams ("Water Purge" and "Water") exit the separator. This "Water" stream is the "Water" stream that is fed to the mixer
*Flue gas: a gas stream exiting from an upstream process that usually consists of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and oxygen (only nitrogen and carbon dioxide are considered for this process).
