The first smartphone was invented in 1992. The first Apple home computer was invented in 1976. Why then, did most Americans only log onto the Internet in the early 2000s? What took them so long to do so? If you look at the line graph in Lecture # 8, page 4 you see the use of the Internet increased dramatically from between 2003 and 2007. Why? O It was in the 2000s that wi-fi was invented, therefore making access to the Internet available to more people. O In 2007, smartphones became more affordable and more portable with Apple's introduction of the iPhone. O It was during that period when the government began not charging for the use of the Internet, thus making it free to both consumers and to business
