The flow chart below shows the process of finishing paperwork for an approved loan application in the loan department. It starts with checking the approved loan applications that arrive at the department (i.e., job 1). The entire process consists of five different jobs, each performed by a different bank employee. In the flow chart, each box contains the description of a job and the processing time required to complete that job for one application. Answer the questions below, Q1~Q3.
Q1: Which job is the bottleneck?
Q2: What is the capacity for this 5-job process in terms of finished applications per hour? Round the number to the first decimal if not a whole number.
Q3: Due to slow loan business, the company has laid off three people in the loan department. Mark and Jenny are the two that stay. Mark will handle Jobs 1, 2, and 3, and Jenny handles Jobs 4 and 5. They will still follow the above flow chart for the sequence of job processing. For example, as soon as Mark finishes Job 2, the application will be forwarded to Jenny for Job 4 and at the same time, Mark can start Job 3. Both Job 3 and Job 4 have to be done for the application to move forward with Jenny for Job 5. The job times required for each job are the same as before.
What is the capacity of this 5-job process after layoffs? Round the number to the first decimal if not a whole number.
