1. The FMLA became very prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Several amendments to the FMLA were enacted to address leave related to employee exposure to the Covid virus.  The Families First Coronavirus Response Act signed on March 18, 2020, provided provide employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19.  Consequently, the pandemic sparked further debate about paid leave under the FMLA.  Since signed into law, the FMLA only provided unpaid leave, until October 2020 when the FMLA was amended to provide 12 weeks of paid leave to certain federal employees.  However, private sector employees are still only entitled to the original 12-week unpaid leave.
