It is estimated to have a life of four years. ii) The electric wiring in the building was replaced at the cost of $1,990. iii) A second-hand machine for use in manufacturing operations purchased at a cost of $7,200. The machine had been used for 2 years by its previous owner and the taxpayer estimates he will only gain a further 5 years' service from it. However, on first using the machine the taxpayer discovers it will not operate due to a damaged cylinder in the engine. This is replaced at a cost of $800
