The following transactions occurred during the current year:
a. Sold merchandise for cash, $230,000.
b. Sold merchandise to Abbey Corp; invoice amount, $14,000.
c. Sold merchandise to Brown Company; invoice amount, $25,600.
d. Abbey paid the invoice in (b) within the discount period.
e. Sold merchandise to Cavendish Inc.; invoice amount, $28,000.
f. Collected $91,100 cash from customers for credit sales made during the year, all within the discount periods.
g. Brown paid its account in full within the discount period.
h. Sold merchandise to Decca Corporation; invoice amount, $20,400.
i. Cavendish paid its account in full after the discount period.
j. Wrote off an old account of $4,900 after deciding that the amount would never be collected.
k. The estimated bad debt rate used by the company was 5 percent of accounts receivable at December 31 of the current year.
The company records sales revenue net of the sales discount. If a customer pays after the discount period, the sales discount that is
forfeited is recorded in a separate account (sales discounts forfeited) and closed to sales revenue at the end of the accounting period.
