The following is a brochure created for my new job with a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) agency that also incorporates other types of evidence-based therapies into its organization. My boss asks you to run a weekly therapy group to assist high-risk usersof crisis care. The brochure proposes the style of therapy I will use and explains evidence-based treatments. This proposal will be given to these high-risk clients in hopes that they will join the group.

Brochure:

Choosing the right kind of therapy that fits the needs of a client is very important to the overall health and well-being of the client. Along with the right kind of therapy also comes the right kind of support system that the client will need to embark on the journey they are about to go through. Whenever a client decides to go through therapy, it is important for them to know that the road is not going to be easy and they their are going to be things that need to be talked about that they may not want to talk about, but will be necessary. Cognitive Processing Therapy is a style of therapy that is closely related to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is one of the most common types of therapy used today.

Cognitive Processing Therapy is a type of therapy that is used by the Department of Veteran Affairs in their PTSD therapy. It is an 8-14 week therapy session that can be done either individually or in a group setting. It has been proven to reduce PTSD symptoms that have been developed after experiencing some kind of traumatic experience. This can range from child abuse, rape, combat, or any other type of experience in life that has had a negative effect on a person. In this style of therapy, patients learn to understand how the relationship between thoughts and emotions are connected. It helps them identify the thoughts that are maintaining their PTSD symptoms "the stuck point" as it is referred to as.

Evidence-Based Treatments Used for Therapy

There are 4 parts to this type of therapy, 1. educating the client about PTSD and Cognitive Processing Therapy. 2. Being able to process the trauma that happened. 3. Learn to challenge the thoughts about the trauma. 4. Trauma themes.

Education about PTSD and CPT, everyone responds to traumatic events in different ways, explain how CPT works, treatment goals, and let the client explain how they view themselves, the world, and how the trauma has effected them.

Processing the Trauma, involves working on thinking through the trauma memory. Ask the client to write a trauma account. This can help the client process their feelings related to the trauma.

Challenge thoughts about the Trauma, this helps the client identify the thoughts that are preventing recovery. Worksheets may be given during the course of therapy as homework.

Trauma themes, themes such as safety, trust, power and control, esteem, and intimacy will be the main focus in the last few sessions. Those that have experienced a traumatic event typically have issues in one or more of these areas. Worksheets will be given to the client and gone over for each of these themes. With each theme there will be a discussion about the clients thoughts and feelings.

Also there are videos and other resources to help guide you through the CPT process and what to expect once the therapy is complete.
