The following system is operated in steady state. Liquid water enters the boiler at 60 bar. Steam leaves the boiler at 60 bar, 540C and is throttled at 40 bar before entering the turbine. The steam expands adiabatically through the turbine at 5 bar and 240C and is then throttled at 1 bar before entering the condenser. the effects of kinetic and potential energy can be ignored.
a) Determine the power developed by the turbine, in KJ/Kg of the flowing steam.
b) For the valves and the turbine, evaluate the rate of entropy production, each in KJ/K per Kg of flowing steam.
c) Using the result of part b), place the components more to the operation of the system in general.
d) If the objective is to increase the power developed per kg of steam flowing, which of the components (if any) could be eliminated? Explain
