Leadership in a Diverse and Multicultural Environment, serves as a means of applying cross- cultural theories within our own work environments. Some of you are probably thinking, Oh no, not another diversity initiative! Sorry. However, I think that the text brings out some very important points about Americans working in international settings. In the USA we have developed such a large, diverse, melting pot of a culture that our managers should be poised to do quite well in the international arena. Actually, if you think about it, our melting pot really hasnt resulted in a soup. Our cultures is really more of a stew with lots of blending (the sauce), but some pretty serious lumps of ethnic cultures and backgrounds. Because we have to deal with so many people from such different backgrounds at the workplace (the potato and meat lumps), we should be able to develop leaders who are uniquely qualified to lead international efforts. We will spend a fair amount of effort this semester discussing how to develop these leadership competencies.

Your task is to find an article relevant to this week's topic. You are to prepare a less than 1 page memo with:

• One paragraph overview of the article and a weblink to the article (or attach it to your memo file).
• One or two paragraphs to connect the source with material(s) from your text books. Are the texts and your source in agreement? Why or why not?

Your task is to examine the content of the article and relate the topic to an area of cross-cultural management that we are currently examining in the seminar. The primary purpose of the article review is for you to make connections to the course content by personalizing the material into your work and/or personal life. Finding your own articles instead of providing you with a reading list serves to teach you how and where to find relevant and timely information on international business topics. You can expect to spend more time looking for an appropriate article than writing the article review.
