The following transactions occurred in 2022 for NV Hospital, a not-for-profit hospital. i. Patients were charged $800,000 for services performed. These amounts are the responsibility of government programs and insurance companies. These third-party payors will receive explicit price concessions because of long standing contracts. Administration believes that NV has an 80% chance of receiving $700,000 and a 40% chance of receiving $500,000. NV has a policy of reporting the most likely outcome. ii. NV charges $350,000 to patients who are uninsured. Administration believes that NV has a 70% chance of receiving $200,000 and a 20% chance of receiving $100,000. Again, NV has a policy of reporting the most likely outcome. iii. $30,000 was charged to patients who have little or no income. NV chooses to view this work as charity care and make no attempt at collection. iv. NV receives pledges near the end of the year totaling $150,000. Of that amount, $20,000 is judged to be conditional. The remaining $130,000 has a donor- stipulated purpose restriction. The present value of the $130,000 is calculated to be $105,000. v. A $400,000 investment was donated with the stipulation that only the income could be used to pay the salaries of the personnel in the mental health department. vi. The hospital acquired medical supplies in the amount of $15,000. The cash had been donated in a previous year for the specific purpose of purchasing medical supplies. vii. Based on past history, NV estimates that $25,000 of the reported receivable amount from third-party payors will never be collected and that $15,000 of the reported receivable from uninsured patients will never be collected. Required: Prepare the journal entries for the above transactions.
