The given information on the input and output streams of a basic oxygen furnace are presented in Assumptions: - (%CaO/%SiO2) remains constant at 3.5 - The enthalpy of solution of silicon and carbon in iron can be neglected - The enthalpy of slag formation from its liquid constituents is negligible - Assume all iron oxide in the slag is in the form of FeO - Heat loss in the BOF is estimated at 60,000kcal per 1000kg of steel produced - Post combustion lance practice is applied resulting in high CO2/CO. Perform a complete mass and energy balance on basic oxygen steelmaking process, and provide the answers to the following questions: a. The required enthalpy values of all the components of the input and output streams are extracted from HSC (See Table A.1). Determine the number of unknowns and solve the mass and energy balance equations (matrix method is the most convenient in this case) (60%) b. Calculate the composition of the slag as well as the weight of all input and output streams per 1000kg of steel (40%)
