The globalization of the supply chain has received a bad rap in the last few years with the media claiming that globalization takes much of the blame for declining economies in many countries. The most recent example is the fallout from the coronavirus. There are numerous calls for companies to re-shore and in-source some operations in their extensive supply chains therefore reducing globalization. This short sighted view ignores the fact in that it was not the CEOs and government leaders falling in love with China. Firms did it for sound business and economic reasons.
