The goal of this study is to examine a set of variables that predict success in a graduate statistics class. Research Problem: Professor Antonia Knapp, a faculty member at Thoreau University, is concerned about the high failure rates in her graduate Statistic -II classes (Stats-II). For example, during the 2022-2023 academic year, among the one-hundred students that enrolled in her Stats-II classes, only 65% passed the class with a grade of B or A. Forty-five percent of students received grades of C or less, and had to re-take the class. To better understand the factors that are related to success in the Stats_II class the professor collects the following data for a sample of 101 students enrolled in her classes. Research Measures 1: GRE_Q: Grade on the GRE Quantitative Reasoning Test (ETS, 2020). The professor speculates that students with higher quantitative reasoning skills would be more successful in the class. It is noteworthy that based on national norms, the mean for the GRE-Q is 150, with a standard deviation of 15. Scores can range from 130 to 170. You are free to compare the mean GRE_Q score for the sample with the National mean. You learned how to do that
