"The Treasure of Lemon Brown" by Walter Dean Myers talks about the main character Greg and Lemon Brown and Greg's father. Greg is failing math and his father won't let him play basketball. The value of something is highly personal, only its owner can ever appreciate its real worth and pass it on to others. When Greg first meets Lemon Brown, Lemon Brown mentions his treasure to Greg, but Greg doesn't believe it. For example, according to the author, "Every man got a treasure. You don't know that you must be a fool"(Page 3). This evidence substantiates the idea of how every man got something valuable to them. Another example is the text states "I'm not looking for your treasure,' Greg answered, smiling. 'If you have one"(Page 3). This evidence indicates how Greg doesn't believe Lemon Brown that he has a treasure because he is homeless. Treasure is not always Monterey's wealth. After Greg and Lemon Brown started to bond, they got attacked by the thugs. In addition to that, the thugs misunderstand the meaning of a treasure. For example, the passage states "All I know is that I heard him talking about some kind of treasure. You know they found that shopping bag lady with that load of money in her bag" (Page 5). This proves that the thugs define treasure as money. At the same time, that's what Greg thinks the meaning of treasure is. Furthermore, the text states "Throw down your money, old man, so I won't have to bash your head in!"(Page 5). This significantly illustrates the idea that the thugs are willing to hurt someone for money and they think that it's money. After Greg and Lemon Brown get attacked, Greg understands how valuable the treasure is for Lemon Brown by how Lemon Brown risked his life for the treasure. The real meaning of a treasure, and apparates his father. For example, according to the author, "I didn't have nothing to give him except these things that told him who I was and what he comes from" ( Page 7). This evidence clearly shows that how Greg figures out that treasure can be someone you admire or something you value a lot. Another example the text states " Thought of the lecture he knew his father would give him, and smiled" (Page 8). This evidence emphasizes how Greg realized at the end of his story that listening to his father's lecture will be okay, his attitude has changed toward his father. Not only that, but also he now understands and appreciates his father. To conclude, everyone has a treasure or something important to him or her, and it does not have to have a great monetary value. It can be a relationship or a special thing, or it could be something that is passed on. Greg realizes that Lemon's treasure isn't anything that includes money instead, it is something that can be passed on or it is something that is very valuable to a person and has a meaning. Greg Understands and appreciates his father after Lemon Brown reveals his treasure. "And you take care of that treasure of yours," Greg said.
