The high incidence of mental health disorders in the US, in my opinion, are significantly influenced by stress. While most of the country has access to the necessities of life, certain areas struggle to obtain things like adequate medical care or nutritious food. A person will experience more stressful conditions if they are worried about whether they will be able to pay for good meals or a trip to the physician, and this can have a significant impact on their diagnosis of mental illness. Being late for work is a minor everyday stressful event that may not contribute significantly to those illnesses on its own, but when combined with other stresses that have a greater influence on a person's life, they may cause unhappiness or some other disorder.
