A large part of the internship is deciding on and getting approval for a project by your preceptor and instructor. Your project is unique and individual to your internship experience. For your preceptor and instructor to approve the project, you need to come up with with a concept paper that describes the project sufficiently for the preceptor and instructor to understand your intent.
1. The subject of the project
Include the subject and the location, if applicable.
2. Project type
What type of project is it? A report, policy, guidelines, research results? There are other types as well; these are just examples of what the final form of the project can be.
3. Value of the project
What will this project contribute to the body of knowledge or the organization? For example, will the project inform the reader on new developments in a field, guidelines or best practices, educational programs for patients, new project or equipment justification, new business plan, facility expansion plan, new program implementation plan? These are all examples of projects that have value.
4. Description of the project development plan
How will I do this project? From where will you get the information you need to complete the project? What are the major steps, and when do you expect to be done? You can come up with a Gantt chart to help you decide the major steps or milestones.
