Joshua was employed as a clerk in a large department store for 10 years. One day, he dropped a case of dishes, shattering them all over the floor of the store. His manager was very angry and accused Joshua of not paying attention. The employer decided to suspend Joshua for one week without pay as discipline. His employment contract said nothing about suspensions, but it did include the following term: "The employer can terminate the employee at any time by providing the employee with 2 weeks' notice."
