Borrow Source #1: (REFER TO ATTACHMENT) This source is rectangular in shape and is located adjacent the levee footprint along the landside. The parcel runs 1000 feet along the levee and is 800 feet wide. The landowner has recently cleared the parcel, so no stripping will be required. She is willing to allow you to excavate up to a maximum of four (4) feet deep so long as the final 5-foot edge around the entire excavation is left at a gradual 4:1 slope when the borrow operation is complete. Her price for the dirt is $2.20 per cubic yard. After reviewing the lab results for the source, you estimate this material will swell approximately 15% when excavated and will shrink approximately 12% when compacted. Use a scraper fill factor of 90% (SLF =.90) for this borrow site. Use an average one-way travel distance of 900 ft.

 

Borrow Source #2: NO IMAGE NEEDED. Borrow source #2 is located five (5) miles from the project. The source is a local quarry that has been stockpiling overburden for years. They are willing to sell overburden material to you for $1.20 per loose cubic yard. The quarry estimates that they have 180,000 loose cubic yards of material available. The quarry has a loader with a 5.5 CY bucket available onsite to load the trucks. Lab results show that this material has an in-situ (BCY) density of 108 pcf and swelled approximately 12% when excavated and will shrink approximately 16% when compacted. Use a bucket fill factor of 0.90 and a Basic Cycle time of 0.65 minutes (39 secs). After driving the haul route and observing speed limit signs you estimate the trucks will be able to haul to the site at an average speed of 28 MPH and return from the site at 34 MPH. Trucks will be Bottom Dumps.

 

Borrow Source #3: NO IMAGE NEEDED. Borrow source #3 is located four (4) miles from the project. The source is a local truck company that allowed previous customers to stockpile excavation spoils there. They are willing to sell the material to you at a delivered price of $4.55 per loose cubic yard (delivered in bottom dumps). The truck broker estimates that he has 100,000 loose cubic yards of material available. Lab results show that this material has an in-situ (BCY) density of 118 pcf and swelled approximately 15% when excavated and will shrink approximately 16% when compacted. The broker says they average a 3 min load time and the trucks will deliver an average payload of 12.9 BCY per truck. After driving the haul route and observing speed limit signs you estimate the trucks will be able to haul to the site at an average speed of 23 MPH and return from the site at 30 MPH. Trucks will be Bottom Dumps.
