The main objective of this assignment is to construct an Interview Plan and develop a set of interview questions which will help determine project requirements. Interviews are a commonly used Tool and Technique from the 'Collect Requirements' process in PMBOK. A secondary objective is to consider other tools and techniques that might be appropriate for collecting project requirements.

In the previous Assignment, you prepared a Project Charter for a project to develop an innovative running shoe design. It is now time to do some project planning.A very important planning activity is collecting requirements.

Refer to the SOW from Assignment 1 for information about this project (including resource links contained in the SOW). The Project Sponsor wants to make sure that the new product will be innovative and functional. The Sponsor wants the project team to create a top quality product that athletes will want to use, a product that will be comfortable, a product that will improve their performance when they run.

The project team plans to conduct interviews with top athletes who run frequently and intensively, as part of the 'Biometric data collection from top athletes' stage of the project. The results of the interviews will be used to help the project team determine physical and performance characteristics for the prototype.

Let's wind back the clock to January 1, 2018. You are on the project planning team and your job is to help collect project requirements. You will be interviewing a sample of top athletes to determine their needs and wants related to product design/characteristics.

Task 1 (Interview Plan)

Task 1 is to create a plan for interviewing top athletes who will provide data that can be used to improve the product design.

Refer to Step 1 of the multi-step Interview/Focus Group process that we learned in the Module 4 PowerPoint slides. There are two slides in the Module 4 PowerPoint slideshow, both titled 'Step 1: Prepare a Plan'. Follow those guidelines and prepare aninterviewplan. Your interview plan should be roughly one page in length.

Task 2 (Interview Questions)

Task 2 consists of three parts.

A) Create a list of 15 specific interview questions that the project team might ask when interviewing top athletes. You must prepareat leastfive open-ended questions andat leastfive closed-ended questions in your list of questions.

B) Foreachof the 15 questions, indicate whether the question is an open-ended or a closed-ended question.

C) Finally, foreachof the 15 questions, write a brief explanation (1 or 2 sentences) for WHY you are asking that question. How would the question help your planning team determine requirements for this project?

A bad example (incorrect question type, insufficient explanation):

• Question: "How many hours per week do you run? " (open-ended question)
• Explanation: We would ask this question to determine how many hours per week the athlete runs.

Why is that a bad example? First, it's actually a closed-ended question, not an open-ended question. Second, the explanation describes what the question means, but it doesn't tell us HOW OR WHY the answer to the question helps us determine requirements. It is also a bad example because sometimes athletes run less frequently (e.g., when they are on vacation) and sometimes they run more frequently (e.g., when they are training for an upcoming competition) - we don't want to confuse the respondent by asking this vague question.

A better example:

• Question: "During times when you are running most intensively and frequently, how many hours per week do you run?" (closed-ended question)
• Explanation: The answer to this question will help us determine the upper threshold for duration of usage when doing prototype testing for durability.

Remember! One of the main purposes of the interviews is to determine stakeholder requirements. "What is your name?" should NOT be one of your 15 interview questions - that's not going to help the team determine project requirements!

Task 3 (Other Tools & Techniques for Collecting Requirements for This Project)

In Modules 4, 5, and 6, we discovered that PMBOK and BABOK contain many tools and techniques (such as interviews) for collecting requirements.

Describe (define) TWO additional tools/techniques that your planning team might employ when collecting requirements for this project. Then, explain how/why you might use each of them to help determine requirements for this project.

Think about the the various types of project activities from the SOW in Assignment 1 and consider the overall objectives of this project when selecting your additional tools/techniques.

Your response to Task 3 should be three paragraphs in length (roughly 175-200 words overall). Obviously, interviews cannot be one of your two additional tools/techniques! Since focus groups are already specified among project deliverables in the SOW, you cannot include focus groups in your answer either.
