The major inuences that cause migration to the United States included the impact of the war in Vietnam where the government essentially took away the freedom and power from their people. During the war, our dad fought on the Democratic side against the communists. After 1975, the communists won the war and took over the country, and our father was placed in jail as punishment. The winning side put all the Democratic soldiers in the concentration camps in order to spike fear in the Vietnamese people. After some time, he eventually escaped the camps by risking his life through traveling out to sea on a boat with some of his brothers. During this voyage to escape, he got caught by a Malaysian ship that brought all the captured people from the boat to an immigration camp. Our father spent some time in this camp before he got
