The Ministry of Health in the province of Ontario wants to know whether the national health care system is achieving its goals in the province.

The Ministry of Health in the province of Ontario wants to know whether the national health care system is achieving its goals in the province. Most of the information about health care comes from patient records, however that source does not allow us to compare people who use health services with those who don't. So, the Ministry of Health conducted a health survey, which interviewed a random sample of 1239 people who live in Ontario.

a) What is the population for this sample survey? What is the sample? (2 marks)

b) Assuming the true proportion of people that had visited a general practitioner (doctor) at least once in the past year is 0.80. Find the mean and standard deviation of the sampling distribution of the sample proportion. Explain what this sampling distribution represents. Sketch a graph representing this sampling distribution. (5 marks)

c) The survey found that the proportion of people that had visited a general practitioner (doc-tor) at least once in the past year was 0.76. What is the likelihood of having a sample proportion of 0.76 or lower? Does this make you question the assumption that the true proportion is 0.80 for people living in Ontario? (4 marks)
