The most pervasive principles portrayed in this issue are social justice and fairness. Jennifer was initiallydenied access to any assistance for the hearing, not even her parents, while the accused was supportedby his parents and legal counsel (Jansson, 2017, p. 10). Jennifer was requested to perform some of thehumiliating acts that had been committed against her during the assault, a practice known asreenactment, often forbidden in court cases involving either child or adult victims (p. 10). Jennifer hadpreviously experienced trauma; thus, the attorney was wrong to have her relive the assault a secondtime. Jennifer was repeatedly victimized during the article by peers who harassed her, by being isolatedfrom friends, and by the hearing itself.It appears that the judicial system intended to bring the trial to aconclusion with the least effort while perpetuating discriminatory treatment of a minor and victim ofsexual assault. The result was the passing of legislation that recognizes the rights of child victims
