The M/V DSL was entering the Kingston Harbour with a licensed Pilot. A hurricane was approaching causing the seas to be extremely rough. The M/V DSL was drifting off course towards the shallow part of the channel. In order to lighten the ship and avoid grounding, the master jettisoned some containers. The nearby tugs offered assistance, but the Pilot advised that the vessel should reject the assistance and use its anchor to avoid entering the shallow area and suffering damage. Members of the crew except for the master feared for their safety and left the vessel in a lifeboat. The following day when the hurricane was a few hours away, reboarded the vessel and safely discharged some of the cargo that was left on board unto a coastguard vessel which came to the vessel's assistance. The Coastguard vessel accidentally collided with the M/V resulting in a hole being formed and the master falling over board . The vessel began to sink. Assistance was requested from a nearby ship, the M/V CMI which picked up the master but refused to help the vessel as it would have missed its berth allocation in the port of Kingston. The M/V DSL was able to limp to the Kingston Dry Dock where it was able to receive repairs. The Crew, Pilot, Coastguard, M/V CMI and fisherman seek your advice on whether they can 'get some money' from the owners of the M/V CMI and the fisherman claim salvage awards.
