The National Football League has policies in place that require all teams to interview minority candidates for all open head coaching positions (The Rooney Rule). The goal is to increase the number of opportunities for minority head coaches in the league. It has been a controversial policy and has received criticism from all sides. The rule has also been expanded to other executive positions for NFL teams as well as female candidates for certain coaching positions.
