The National Retail Federation conducted a national randomly-selected survey of 8,526 consumers on September 1-9, 2009 asking households how much they plan to spend on Memorial Day. I would like to know if the average amount households planned to spend on Memorial Day is less than $57.

The survey found that the average amount that the respondents said they expect to spend on Memorial Day is $56.31 with a standard deviation of $30.
