The number you send to me should tell me how many of your 10 points you want to use to buy a chance at getting 5 extra credit points. You can buy these chances in any whole number amount (i.e. you choose a number from the set {0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10}). Choosing higher numbers gives you a larger chance of winning the extra credit. How this works is described below. Your GROUP: You will be randomly and anonymously grouped with 3 other people in this class. You will never know who your group members are in this experiment. The Reward: The person who wins the reward will be awarded 5 extra credit points in this class. Your Choice: Each person in the group will choose how many points to allocate towards attempting to win the Reward. You can think of these points as lottery tickets for the reward. In this sense, you choose how many lottery tickets you want to buy at a cost of 1 point per lottery ticket in an effort to win the 5 extra credit points.
