The objective of the project is to assess students’ abilities to link course material to actual practices. Students are expected to be able to identify insurance companies, understand the sector environment and analyze financials of their selected firm. The Project consists of a written report. Work is going to be done in groups of 4. Each group shall choose a large insurance company headquartered in the GCC (not including Bahrain).
Same Company is not allowed within the same section. So Companies will be accepted on a
first-come, first-selected basis.
Assignment/Project guidelines are as below:
1. Project:

The written project is divided into three parts:
(a) Part 1: Corporate Overview:
• A brief about the industry and operating environment. (size of the market, number of companies, competitors and similar institutions, etc.)
• Company business analysis:
– Size of company (by Total assets, Equity, and Market Share - please report numbers accurately).
– Organizational structure: Names and role of departments.
– Range of services, products and insurance policies provided.
– Utilized marketing channels.
- Business Issues faced due to COVID-19.
(b) Part 2: Company’s 3 year Financial Highlights (2017-20): (Support all numbers with suitable Interpretation/analysis, see trend of last three years)
• Major investment asset categories
• Size and type of loss reserves.
• Size of the company’s revenue. What type of insurance is the main income resource?
• Major expenses.
• Calculate and interpret following ratios (analysis of why is 3 year trend is changing is a requirement):
– Loss ratio.
– Expense ratio.
– Combined ratio.
– Investment income ratio.
– overall operating ratio.

(c) Conclusion:
- In terms of Financial performance and future outlook of the company and industry ( how has the company performed in past and what is expected in future)
