The objective of this assignments is the utilization of the Harmonized Commodity Description & Coding System to identify duty rates for raw materials, components, products, services and/or other resources imported into Canada and used every day by the average person.

Step 1

• Students are required to find two items in their home that they would like to classify using the Harmonized Commodity Description & Coding System. Prior to classifying these two products, all items must be confirmed by the course faculty to ensure there are no duplicates with other classmates.

Step 2

• 1. A short commercial description of each item.
  2. The correct HS classification code from the Canadian Customs Tariff 2022-4 and a screenshot of the applicable Customs Tariff HS Classification information for each item.
