Antoine is a 24-year-old young graduate from the Telfer management school. He recently took up a position as an HR advisor in a popular financial institution. His salary is above average for comparable positions. Moreover, his remuneration is higher than that of the majority of his former classmates. On the other hand, his work weeks are quite long: he works on average 45 hours per week, and he is not paid for overtime.
Antoine has an advisory role with the managers in his department. As an advisor, he contributes to the development of human resources policies, practices and programs. It provides information useful for decision-making and makes recommendations to improve human resources management activities.
The average age of the managers he advises is 45, which causes him a certain problem regarding his credibility. Managers do not always follow Antoine's advice, especially because of his age and his lack of experience.
Thus, considering that he is quite young and has little experience, Salma, his superior, generally assigns him files that are easy to carry out. Salma is reluctant to entrust him with too heavy responsibilities and would rather wait until Antoine gains more experience.
Faced with this situation, Antoine has the impression that his efforts are not bearing fruit: he never takes care of the most interesting files. He also feels like Salma doesn't trust him and underestimates his skills.
Despite this, Antoine continues to be committed to his work, helping Salma and other managers who encounter difficulties. He always provides courteous and efficient service, with the aim of keeping his job.
However, Salma notices that Antoine seems less enthusiastic since his return from summer vacation: despite his good performance, Antoine no longer puts the same energy into his work and spends a lot of time on his personal social networks.
