The patient is a 28-year-old female with severe chronic asthmatic bronchitis and a congenital heart condition - ventricular septal defect - that has been monitored for several years. At this time, the patient has very painful bunions on both feet that make walking increasingly difficult with the fact she is unable to wear a shoe on her left foot. She has acquired this condition rather quickly over the past couple of years. The patient was referred to a podiatrist for evaluation. After taking the patient's history and performing a physical examination of the patient's lower extremities, the physician concluded the patient had hallux abductovalgus, both feet, worse on the left.
