The planning department of a firm has 2 computers to plan the assignment and line balancing jobs. Demand facing this department in a period of 1 hour is random, with the following probability distribution: Prob(D = 0) = 0.2 Prob(D = 1) = 0.45 Prob(D = 2) = 0.35 At the beginning of each hour requests for jobs are received according to the previous distribution and it should be kept in mind that a single computer can process a single job in an hour. A computer in operation has a probability of 0.4 to fail during a given hour, if this happens the support personnel repair it, which takes them exactly one hour, during this repair time the computer will not be available (the support department can repair one computer or two computers in one hour.) (a) Very clearly define the variable for this process and obtain the one-step transition matrix (18 pts) (b) If both computers are not working, how soon could we expect to see them both working?
