The police station of a small town is studying the workforce need based on the crime rate. This study seeks the minimum number of police workforce that can cover the existing crime rate. The crime rate fluctuates with the time of the day. Based on this, the police station requires at least the following number of on-duty police officers for each of these 4-hour periods: 12 midnight to 4am, 16 officers; 4am to 8am, 10 officers; 8am to 12pm, 6 officers; 12pm to 4pm, 7 officers; 4pm to 8pm, 8 officers; and 8pm to 12 midnight, 10 officers. Each police officer works three consecutive 4-hour shifts. Formulate this problem as an LP to minimize the total number of police officers needed to meet the requirements of this police station.
