The present U.S. Supreme Court is represented by 8 Justices who attended an Ivy League law school, and only one, the relatively newly appointed Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who went to the University of Notre Dame Law School. The eight Ivy League law school Justices either went to Harvard or Yale Law School. As undergraduates all of the Justices attended an Ivy League college except for Justice Thomas who graduated from Holy Cross College and Justice Breyer who graduated from Stanford University, and Justice Coney-Barrett who went to Rhodes College in Tennessee. Additionally, the present Court has 6 Catholic Justices, 2 Jewish Justices, and one Episcopalian Justice (Gorsuch) who was raised Catholic.

While there are now 4 female Justices, a Hispanic, and two black Justices, is the lack of law school diversity and religious diversity an issue for the U.S. Supreme Court in determining cases of significant impact upon the United States, especially in cases dealing with issues such as freedom of religion, immigration, and social justice issues?
