The process of decision making within an organization is like the sign posted at the fork of a road telling you in which direction your destination lies. Strategizing, setting goals and plans and processes for achieving those goals, is almost a pointless venture if there is not someone who can make astute observations and act on them decisively to guide a company. This also pertains to the concept of flexibility in the way that good decision making by managers allows a company to remain flexible and make decisions in the process of growing and while implementing new strategies. It is what enables the other members and positions to focus on their roles, or in more vertically aligned companies it allows lower level managers and employees to follow a shifting guideline maintained by someone who has proper oversight. Whether it is a programmed decision like an SOP (standard operating procedure) in relation to a machine or parts failure, or a more ambiguous decision like who to let go based on overall performance and relation to the company, it belongs to managers who can examine the details of a situation and come up with the most beneficial decision
